A study for a very grand cat
The front of Count Cat's Study is a carved gothic arch with two pointed ears at the top, so the whole kit reads as a cat's head on your shelf. Through it you look into a small, warm study: tall shelves of books, a writing desk, framed pictures on the walls, and the Count himself, a cat settled in an armchair with a book. Ornate side panels frame the scene like the covers of an old volume.
Size
Built, it measures about 3.9 in wide, 4.6 in deep and 6.7 in tall (10 x 11.8 x 17 cm). That is a true book nook size: narrow enough to stand between books on almost any shelf, and short enough for low shelves too. Leave a little room behind it so you can reach the switch.
The build
With 121 pieces, this is one of the gentlest book nooks you can start with. The parts are pre-cut and pre-printed, so there is no painting. You press them out of the wood sheets and slot and glue them together, step by step, from an illustrated guide. Plan on about 2 to 3 hours.
The case goes together first, then the shelves and the furniture, then the small things that make the study feel lived in: books, frames and the cat in his chair. Use a white craft glue that dries clear, placed with a toothpick, and keep fine tweezers close for the smallest parts. Stop at any natural point and carry on another evening.
The light
A warm LED set comes wired, with a battery box and a touch switch. It runs on 2 AAA batteries, which are not included. There is no soldering. With the lights on, the arch glows amber and the study looks like a room someone has just stepped out of.
Who it suits
Cat lovers, readers with a soft spot for old libraries, and anyone building their first kit. It also makes an easy gift: the steps are short, the result looks far more involved than it was, and it fits on a crowded shelf without moving anything.
Care and display
Keep it out of direct sun so the printed paper keeps its color, and dust it with a soft, dry brush. It looks best at eye level, where you can see past the arch into the study. Take the batteries out if you store it for a while.
Questions
Is Count Cat's Study good for a first build?
Yes. It has 121 pre-cut, pre-printed pieces and a step-by-step illustrated guide. Most people finish it in 2 to 3 hours.
How big is it?
About 3.9 x 4.6 x 6.7 in (10 x 11.8 x 17 cm), width by depth by height. It stands between books on most shelves, including low ones.
What batteries does it need?
2 AAA batteries, not included. The LED set, the battery box and the touch switch come in the kit, and no soldering is needed.
Do I need glue?
Yes, a white craft glue that dries clear. It is not in the kit. A toothpick and fine tweezers make the small parts much easier.
