A shop for star charts
The Astrology Bookshop is a narrow, tall shop front with pointed gothic windows, a carved violet facade and a heavy stone footing. Through the windows you see crowded shelves, a crystal ball on a stand, a dream catcher, potion bottles and a reading chair with a cushion. A little fence and a lamp stand by the door.
Size
Built, it measures 6.3 in wide, 6.1 in deep and 7.1 in tall (16 x 15.5 x 18 cm). It sits on a shelf or desk like a framed scene, and it pairs well with the other City Walk shops if you want to build a street.
The build
This is a good first kit. You press 155 pre-cut pieces out of wood sheets, then slot and glue them together following an illustrated guide. Paper parts add the book spines, posters and small signs. Plan on about 3 hours. The walls and floor come together quickly; the shelves and little props take most of the time, and they are the part most people enjoy.
Keep a white craft glue and a toothpick at hand, and sort the sheets by number before you start. Fine tweezers make the smallest props easier. Stop at any natural point and carry on another evening.
The light
The warm LED set is pre-wired, with a battery box and a touch switch built into the shop. It runs on 2 AAA batteries, not included. No soldering: the lights fit into place as you go, and the wires stay out of sight. With the room lights off, the windows glow amber against the violet front.
Care and display
Keep it out of direct sun so the paper colors stay rich, and dust it with a soft brush. On a bookshelf, leave a little space behind it so you can reach the switch. It looks best at eye level, where you can see past the door into the shop.
Who it suits
Readers who like a little mystery on the shelf, anyone into astrology or tarot, and first-time builders who want a satisfying result in one long evening. It is also an easy gift for a friend who has never built a kit: the steps are short and the result looks far more involved than it was.
Questions
Is The Astrology Bookshop a good first kit?
Yes. With 155 pieces it is one of the smaller City Walk kits, and the illustrated guide shows each step. Plan on about 3 hours, with breaks whenever you like.
How big is it once built?
About 6.3 x 6.1 x 7.1 in (16 x 15.5 x 18 cm), width by depth by height. It fits on a standard bookshelf with room above it.
What do I need to add?
White craft glue, a pair of fine tweezers and 2 AAA batteries for the light. The LED set, battery box and touch switch come in the kit.
Does it light up?
Yes. Warm LEDs light the shop from inside, and a touch switch turns them on and off. No soldering is needed.
