Two wide shop fronts
These kits are broader and shallower than the standard City Walk shops: about 8.3 in wide, 5.1 in deep and 6.7 in tall (21 x 13 x 17 cm). The long front gives each one room for a full window display, so they read like a real shop seen from across the street.
Mrs. Hunt's Bakery is warm orange and brown, with wide windows full of bread, cakes and pastries and a striped awning over the door. Blossom Florists is deep green, with buckets of flowers along the front, plants in every window and a gold shop sign. Side by side they make a short, bright row of shops.
The build
You get pre-cut wood sheets, printed paper parts, a warm LED set and an illustrated guide. Pieces press out of the sheets, then slot and glue together. Mrs. Hunt's Bakery has 216 pieces and Blossom Florists 294. Plan on about 5 hours; the florist, with the most plants and pots, takes the longest.
The front and the floor come together quickly. Most of the time goes into the furniture and the shop goods: counters, shelves, cakes, flower pots and signs. It helps to sort the sheets by number before you start, so every piece is easy to find when the guide asks for it.
Use a white craft glue that dries clear, and place it with a toothpick rather than straight from the bottle. Fine tweezers make the smallest paper parts much easier to handle. Stop at any natural point and carry on another evening.
The light
A pre-wired warm LED set lights the window and the shop floor. The battery box has a touch switch and takes 2 AAA batteries, not included. No soldering is needed, and the wires run out of sight inside the walls. Switched on in a dark room, the long window glows like a shop after closing time.
Where it fits
Because these shop fronts are shallow, they suit narrow shelves, mantels, window ledges and desks where a deep kit would overhang. They also make a fine centerpiece between two standard City Walk shops, since the series shares one scale. Keep them out of direct sun so the printed paper keeps its color, and dust them now and then with a soft, dry brush.
Which one to pick
Pick the bakery for a warm, golden glow and the quicker build of the two. Pick the florist if you like greenery and do not mind a few extra pots to fill. Both make a thoughtful gift for someone who loves a cozy shelf, and both reward a slow, patient evening of building.
Questions
How big are the storefront kits?
About 8.3 x 5.1 x 6.7 in (21 x 13 x 17 cm), width by depth by height. They are wider and shallower than the standard City Walk shops.
Which design takes longer?
Blossom Florists, with 294 pieces and lots of plants and pots. Mrs. Hunt's Bakery has 216 pieces and goes together a little faster.
What do I need besides the kit?
White craft glue, fine tweezers and 2 AAA batteries for the light. The LED set and the battery box with touch switch are in the kit.
Are these harder than the smaller City Walk shops?
A little. The pieces are no smaller, but there are more of them and the window displays take patience. If you have built one kit before, you will be fine.
